€30 billion (about $34 billion) to help Europe weather the heat, floods and droughts ahead
The European Investment Bank will at least double its climate-adaptation financing, to €30 billion (about $34 billion) by 2030, helping communities prepare for heatwaves, droughts, wildfires and floods — from stronger energy networks and water systems to climate-resilient farming. Its boards also approved €11.8 billion (about $13 billion) in new financing, including €5.5 billion (about $6 billion) for Europe's energy autonomy. 'Every euro invested in prevention and adaptation to climate change saves 10 euros in damages and repairs,' said EIB Group President Nadia Calviño.
The upbeat factorpreparation as a form of optimism — money spent before the storm, not after.
