500 million doctor visits that never needed a waiting room
In a village in Nagaland, 12-year-old Mushem had an ear infection and a fever — and got a prompt diagnosis and the right medicine without travelling anywhere, through e-Sanjeevani, India's free national telemedicine service. India's Prime Minister told the nation the service has now passed 50 crore (500 million) tele-consultations, linking patients in places as far-flung as Lakshadweep, Ladakh and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands to doctors, backed by nearly 1.9 lakh (190,000) Ayushman Arogya Mandirs — local health centres bringing check-ups to village level.
The upbeat factorhalf a billion consultations — care that reaches the last village, not just the big city.
