53 countries just agreed: ageing is not a decline to manage, but a lifetime to invest in

The 53 member states of the WHO European Region have unanimously adopted 'Ageing is living', a strategy for 2026–2030 to help people live longer, healthier lives. Adopted on October 29 at the WHO Regional Committee in Copenhagen after almost two years of consultation involving more than 3,000 people, the strategy works on two tracks: improving health, independence and quality of life for older people today, and investing across the whole of life so future generations reach old age in better health. 'Living longer is something to celebrate, but what matters is not simply adding years to life — it is whether people can live those years in good health,' said Dr Corinne Capuano of WHO/Europe.
