7.1 million trees, planted by millions of hands

Since April, South Africans have planted 7,134,711 trees — ordinary citizens, businesses, schools, and traditional leaders — toward the president's one-billion-tree pledge. A nationwide Heritage Day push on September 24 set the pace, with planting events across all nine provinces, and even ambassadors joining in. Seven million down, the rest to go.
