92% covered: Ghana's yellow fever teams reached 225,446 people — then sent extra motorbikes to the village with two nurses

In Ghana's Upper West Region, vaccination teams have now reached 225,446 people in the yellow fever campaign — and in Wa West District, coverage stands at 92% of everyone eligible, from babies of nine months to 60-year-olds. Out of all those vaccinations, exactly one mild headache has been recorded as a side effect. Ghana Health Service Director-General Dr Samuel Kaba Akoriyea has deployed 100 motorbikes so teams can reach scattered settlements, and when he heard that Siriyiri's 2,360 residents across five communities are served by just two nurses, he ordered five of the bikes released to that community on the spot. 'If we don't cover 100% yellow fever vaccination, I cannot go to sleep,' he said — and the remaining 8% now have house-to-house mop-up teams coming to them.
