A breast-cancer triplet kept the disease away more than twice as long — and far fewer women had to quit it
For women whose advanced breast cancer carries a PIK3CA mutation, a new three-drug combination bought real time. In the Phase 3 VIKTORIA-1 study, presented at the ESMO congress on Saturday, the gedatolisib triplet held cancer back for a median of 21.5 months in women without liver spread, versus 9.1 months on the standard pairing — and 59% saw their tumours respond. Just as striking, only about 5% stopped the new treatment because of side effects, compared with 19% on the standard.
The upbeat factormore months, and a treatment gentle enough that women can actually stay on it.
