A first, celebrated with a crest: Bangladesh Open University honours its first third-gender master's graduate in sociology

Bangladesh Open University has honoured Tanisha Yasmin Choiti, who has become the first third-gender student to complete its Master of Social Science in Sociology, with a grade point average of 3.30 out of 4.00. Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon presented her with a special commemorative crest at the university's 34th founding anniversary celebrations on October 28. The university — built for students whom ordinary campuses do not reach — has also established a dedicated study centre for third-gender students under its Rangpur Regional Centre, with regular classes. It described Tanisha's success as progress towards social inclusion, equal educational rights and a society free from discrimination: a graduate, a crest, and a door now visibly open behind her.

The upbeat factora first graduate is never just one person finishing — it is everyone after her being able to picture finishing.
