A forgotten institute in Savar gets a second life — training the doctors who run hospitals

For years the Bangladesh Institute of Health Management in Savar sat neglected. On Saturday, State Minister for Health MA Muhith confirmed it will finally open on 1 January as a national training centre, with renovation finished by 31 December. Its job is unglamorous and essential: turning skilled doctors into skilled health administrators who can run hospitals, budgets and systems — the layer of a health service patients never see but always feel. Committees from the Health Ministry, the DGHS and the Public Works Department will inspect the site within two weeks to keep the deadline honest.

The upbeat factorgood medicine needs good management — a whole institute devoted to the second half of that sentence.
