Tuberculosis kills over a million people a year, and resistant strains shrug off standard drugs. A German-French team showed that corramycin — a natural compound from soil bacteria — kills TB germs by sabotaging DNA gyrase, the enzyme they need to copy their genes, in a way no current drug does. Even fluoroquinolone-resistant strains fell.
