A solar carport now powers a California port that wants to be America's first zero-emission port
At the Port of Hueneme in California, cars waiting to be shipped now park under a canopy that works for a living: a 913-kilowatt solar carport built with ForeFront Power at no upfront cost to the port. It will generate more than 1.4 million kilowatt-hours a year — enough for about 250 homes — and avoid 730 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide annually. The project is a step in the port's plan to eliminate emissions from its own operations by 2030 and become the first zero-emission port in the USA.
The upbeat factoreven the car park is pulling its weight on the road to a zero-emission port.
