A virtual band, a real gift: PLAVE donates 100 million won (about $75,000) to UNICEF

They exist on screens — five animated performers who sing, dance and fill arenas their fans watch from home. Their generosity, though, is entirely real. PLAVE, the South Korean virtual boy band, has donated 100 million won (about $75,000) to the Korean Committee for UNICEF, the committee announced on Monday, to support children facing conflict, disaster and poverty with clean water, nutrition, healthcare and education. The gift deepens a partnership begun in August. Later this month the group will give the keynote at The Child Festa for World Children's Day, speaking on a theme they are oddly qualified for: children's mental health in the digital environment.

The upbeat factorthe band is virtual; the clean water, food and schooling their gift pays for are not.
