A whole village pays for one puppy's surgery: Snowy of Nieu-Bethesda goes home
Terrance is a young, much-loved member of Nieu-Bethesda, a small town in South Africa's Karoo — and Snowy, his mixed-breed puppy, is, in his words' spirit, his moon, sun and stars. When Snowy was badly injured by a hit-and-run driver during a walk, Terrance carried her to Victoria Nance, who runs the town's animal welfare organisation. What happened next is what small towns are for: guesthouses, galleries, pizzerias, distilleries and neighbours rallied to fund Snowy's care, and volunteers Briony Chisholm and Gouni-Mae drove her to Camdeboo Veterinary Clinic in Graaff-Reinet for an emergency operation on her hip. She came through it, has been reunited with Terrance, and is healing in a crate under Victoria's care until she can go home for good.
