After two treatments fail, a two-in-one lung cancer drug still finds responses
For people with advanced lung cancer whose disease has already pushed through immunotherapy and chemotherapy, options shrink fast — the standard drug, docetaxel, typically holds the disease for under four months. BioNTech and Bristol Myers Squibb reported the first Phase 2 results for pumitamig, a two-in-one immunomodulator, combined with docetaxel at the ESMO congress: tumours responded in 36.7% of patients, across cancer subtypes and marker levels, and the disease stayed controlled for a median of 6.9 months. Trial investigator Byoung Chul Cho of Yonsei Cancer Center in Seoul said the drug may help re-engage the immune system where it had stopped working.
