At Bondi, the lifeguards had four legs: hundreds of dogs took over the beach for a day

Bondi Pavilion has seen many things, but Pup Pilates is a first. Australian animal charity Pound Paws filled the famous beachfront with hundreds of dogs and their humans for Bondi Dog Day: a Doggie Lifeguard Challenge obstacle course modelled on Bondi's human lifesavers, a best-trick and costume contest, live music — and, at the heart of it, a Rescue Dog Adoption Parade, with greyhounds and even rescue dingoes from Dingo Den Animal Rescue meeting prospective families on stage. Founder Brittany Bloomer called it a reminder of what a shared love of animals does to a community. The outfits were ridiculous. The adoptions were the point.

The upbeat factora beach day where the costumes were silly, the Pilates was real, and some very good dogs found homes.
