Bangladesh is putting real skills within reach of 245,000 young people

For a young person in Bangladesh who is not in education, a job or training — NEET, in the jargon — the first break is the hardest thing to find. CARE Bangladesh and its partners have begun a skills programme for 245,000 people aged 18 to 35 under the EARN project, backed by the World Bank and run with the government's Department of Youth Development. The training mixes practical trades, how to start a small business, and the confidence skills employers ask for, and it is rolling out across Rajshahi, Khulna and Mymensingh divisions and the Chittagong Hill Tracts, with disability inclusion built in through partner organisations.

The upbeat factora quarter of a million young people who were stuck at the hardest step — the first one — just got a way in.
