Barbados Is Turning Its Debt Into Health Care

Barbados is preparing a $600 million debt repurchase with the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, the Caribbean Development Bank and CAF, aiming to free up about $150 million in savings for health care. The money would go toward frontline clinics and refurbishing a hospital built more than 60 years ago — the country's third creative debt swap, after its pioneering deals for marine conservation and climate resilience.
