Belize puts creativity on the national balance sheet
Belize has presented a National Strategy and Roadmap for its Cultural and Creative Sector, closing an EU-funded UNESCO support project during UN Week in Belize. The framework gives institutions, artists, communities and businesses shared priorities for turning culture — music, craft, film, festivals — into employment, entrepreneurship and social inclusion. The EU's Elizabeth Lanzi called culture a powerful force for human development and social cohesion, while UNESCO's Yuri Peshkov described it as an investment in people and communities. The work now moves from planning to funded implementation: a small country deciding its creativity is infrastructure.
