BRAC Bank is issuing Bangladesh's first green bond — Tk1,000 crore (about $81 million) for solar, efficient buildings and cleaner industry

BRAC Bank will launch a Tk1,000 crore (about $81 million) green bond tomorrow — the first issued by a bank in Bangladesh, following the central bank's green bond guidelines. The three-year, non-convertible bond will finance renewable energy projects, environmentally friendly buildings and energy-efficiency improvements in industry, alongside the bank's existing green lending for solar, wind and effluent treatment. It builds on another first: in October 2025 the bank won approval for the country's first social bond. Ordinary savers and investors can now put their money directly behind the country's clean-energy build-out.
