Bristol stops to applaud the people who make the city dementia-friendly

Behind every person living well with dementia in Bristol stands a small army of carers, volunteers and neighbours — and this week the city named them. The Bristol Dementia Action Alliance's 2026 awards honoured winners across more than a dozen categories: Beverley Forrester took the Dementia Hero Award, Mary Jones was named Volunteer of the Year, and Teresa Grunshaw won both the Community Fundraiser and Informal Carer awards, while Collegiate School, Age UK Bristol, Bristol Care Homes and community music group Mini Concerts were among the organisations recognised. 'These awards shine a spotlight on the extraordinary people and organisations helping to make Bristol a more dementia-aware city,' said alliance chair William O'Neill. 'The standard of nominations was exceptionally high.'

The upbeat factora whole city's thank-you, delivered name by name, to the people who make sure dementia never means disappearing.
