C$2.5 billion (about US$1.8 billion) to heal the future: SickKids launches the largest children's-health campaign ever

Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children — SickKids, founded in 1875 and named the world's best children's centre by Newsweek and Statista for a second straight year — has launched the largest fundraising campaign in paediatric health care history. 'Heal the Future' aims to raise C$2.5 billion (about US$1.8 billion) for its Precision Child Health vision: care tailored to each child's genetics and environment, organised around three promises — diagnose faster, treat smarter, predict better. This is no cold start: C$1.03 billion (about US$735 million) has already been committed since the quiet phase began in April 2023, including 134 donors who gave C$1 million or more. The public launch was marked with an immersive theatre piece, 'I See You,' honouring the children the hospital serves.

The upbeat factora billion dollars already promised before the public was even asked — for medicine built around one child at a time.
