Cameroon's farmers just got a compact built around them — finance, reform and youth jobs in one plan
In Yaoundé, the UN's International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the Government of Cameroon and the World Bank have jointly launched the AgriConnect Country Compact — a single plan to modernise farming across eight value chains, from rice, maize and cassava to cocoa, dairy and fish farming. The compact works on three fronts at once: stronger foundations for the farm sector, policy and regulatory reform, and — the part farmers usually wait longest for — real access to finance for producers and small businesses, with young people and women at the centre. 'We remain fully committed to advancing this shared vision, particularly by supporting youth agropastoral entrepreneurship, developing inclusive value chains and increasing access to rural finance,' said IFAD country director Eric Rwabidadi at the launch.
