Cancer treatment at their doorstep: Patan gets an oncology facility of its own
In Patan, in northern Gujarat, cancer care has long meant leaving home — travelling on to Ahmedabad or Surat, the big cities where the specialist hospitals are. On Sunday, that changed: a new cancer treatment facility was inaugurated in Patan itself, built with contributions from local donors and trustees and commissioned to serve the town and the districts around it. Gujarat has been quietly spreading oncology care beyond its major cities, opening facilities at district level so treatment can begin closer to where patients actually live. At the inauguration, the state's Chief Minister praised the donors' spirit of service, and paired the new facility with a simpler hope: daily yoga, balanced food and healthier habits, so that fewer people need the building in the first place.
