Cement, but make it solar: Pioneer switches on a 28 MW plant in Punjab
Cement is one of the world's thirstiest industries for energy — which makes every solar panel on a cement works count double. Pioneer Cement has commissioned a 28-megawatt solar power plant at its operations in Punjab, Pakistan, the company confirmed in a filing to the Pakistan Stock Exchange reported by Business Recorder. The plant will cut the manufacturer's dependence on the national grid and trim the energy bill — and the emissions — built into every bag of cement it produces, in a country where industrial power costs can decide whether a factory thrives.
The upbeat factorone of the heaviest industries on Earth, plugging itself into the sun — 28 megawatts of cement made lighter.
