Closer to home, faster answers: Ghana's yellow fever lab nears global recognition
Today, a suspected yellow fever sample from Ghana makes a long journey — after initial testing at home, it is shipped to the Institut Pasteur in Dakar, Senegal, for confirmation, and the answer travels slowly back. That wait may soon shrink. Ghana Health Service director-general Dr Samuel Kaba Akoriyea said on Sunday that the WHO has evaluated Ghana's Public Health Reference Laboratory, and the country now awaits formal written confirmation that its own results will be recognised internationally. For a country where yellow fever circulates, faster confirmed answers mean faster outbreak responses — measured in days saved, close to home.
