Europe mapped 800+ tech-transfer offices for the first time — to turn more research into real things

Europe makes world-class discoveries; turning them into companies and products is the harder half. A new European Patent Office study, built with ASTP and Fraunhofer ISI, provides the first Europe-wide benchmark of more than 800 university and public-research technology transfer offices — the teams that protect inventions and connect researchers with companies and investors. Most offices are small or mid-sized and face capacity gaps, the study found. 'Technology transfer is a competitiveness issue,' said EPO President António Campinos, as the study set out six priorities to strengthen the bridge from lab to market.
