Five years early: more than half of India's power capacity is now non-fossil

India set itself a Paris Agreement target: by 2030, half of its installed electricity capacity would come from non-fossil sources. Speaking in New Delhi on Monday at the inauguration of the India Renewable Energy Summit and Expo-2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi confirmed the country got there in 2025 — five years ahead of schedule. Rajasthan illustrates the pace: it ranks first in India for renewable generation and solar capacity, with more than 51,000 megawatts of renewables installed, over 45,000 of them solar, and a goal of about 125 gigawatts by 2030. The summit runs 2–5 November with representatives from more than 130 countries and over 400 exhibitors.
