Flu vaccines, made closer to home: a ₩59.2 billion (about $41 million) deal brings production know-how to Colombia

A flu vaccine protects best when it doesn't have to cross an ocean to reach you. South Korea's GC Biopharma has signed a ₩59.2 billion (about $41 million) contract with Colombian vaccine maker VaxThera: GC will supply the bulk substance of its GC Flu vaccine — already prequalified by the World Health Organization — and, just as importantly, teach the process, training VaxThera's team on site so finished vaccines can be filled, checked and distributed in Colombia itself. The project, partly funded by the global-health RIGHT Fund, backs Colombia's push for vaccine self-sufficiency.

The upbeat factornot just doses shipped, but the recipe shared — Colombia gains the means to make its own flu protection.
