Four new research partnerships put Latin American scientists in charge of the questions

The Pew Charitable Trusts is funding four new biomedical research partnerships across Latin America, pairing Pew Latin American Fellows with collaborators in their home region. In Brazil, Priscilla Olsen and Beatriz Patricio will develop a new strategy against antimicrobial drug resistance, and Paulo Teixeira and Antonio Camargo will examine how plants' immune receptors tell friend from foe. In Argentina, Marcelo Yanovsky and Esteban Beckwith will study how organisms adjust their genes under environmental stress. The model is deliberate: fund scientists where they are, and let the research agenda grow from the region's own questions.
