Free meals for 82.9 million people by December: Indonesia's school kitchens get their marching orders
Before boarding a plane for Kuala Lumpur on Saturday, President Prabowo Subianto used the tarmac briefing at Halim Perdanakusuma airbase to issue a number: Indonesia's free nutritious meals programme must reach 82.9 million people by the end of 2026. The programme — cooked meals for schoolchildren, young children and pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, produced by thousands of local kitchens — is already among the largest feeding efforts in the country's history. The directive sets the pace for its next two months: more kitchens, more cooks, more plates.
The upbeat factorlunch, for tens of millions of children, treated as national infrastructure.
