Germany's rooftop solar auction is oversubscribed for the first time as bidders pile in

Germany's third rooftop solar auction of 2026 drew 347 megawatts of bids for 296 megawatts on offer — the first time the rooftop tender has been oversubscribed — and the Federal Network Agency awarded 288 megawatts across 177 winning bids. North Rhine-Westphalia led with 66 megawatts. Winning prices averaged €0.0967 (about $0.11) per kilowatt-hour, holding steady even as demand jumped.

The upbeat factorfor the first time, more people wanted solar on German roofs than the auction had room for.
