Ghana is set to become Africa's eighth-largest economy — a recovery written in steadier numbers

The International Monetary Fund's October World Economic Outlook projects Ghana's economy at $128.64 billion in 2026, with real growth of 5.7 percent — enough to move Ghana past Ethiopia ($127.15 billion) into eighth place among African economies. The shift follows a hard financial crisis marked by a falling currency, high inflation and heavy public debt, and a period of fiscal consolidation and debt restructuring since. Rankings in dollar terms move with exchange rates as well as real output, and the gap is narrow — about $1.49 billion — so the position could change again. But the direction of travel, from crisis management to growth above five percent, is the story Ghanaians have been working towards.

The upbeat factornot the ranking itself, but what sits underneath it — an economy that steadied itself after a crisis and started growing again.
