Guardians of the world's largest wetland: Pew backs Bolivia's Pantanal and Gran Chaco

The Pantanal is the largest tropical wetland on Earth; the Gran Chaco beside it is one of the world's great dry forests. Together they store carbon, regulate the water of millions, and shelter jaguars, giant anteaters and hundreds of bird species. The Pew Charitable Trusts has set out its Bolivia programme in a new fact sheet: strengthening protected areas, creating new ones, backing Indigenous communities to govern their own territories, and building the long-term finance that keeps protection alive after the press releases fade. Its partners are Bolivian — Fundación Natura Bolivia, FUNDESNAP, NATIVA, WWF Bolivia and Indigenous-rights organisation ORE among them — working in the watersheds and territories where the decisions actually land.

The upbeat factorthe planet's biggest wetland gets guardians with a plan, local partners, and financing built to outlast the headlines.
