He turned off the grid at home: Bangladesh's prime minister goes solar, and invites a nation to follow

The invitation came with an example attached. Bangladesh's Power and Energy Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood told journalists on Sunday that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman runs his own home on solar power instead of grid electricity — and that the government wants rooftops across the country to do the same. Ahead of the first-ever Bangladesh Solar Expo, opening 3 November under the theme 'Use Every Inch of Rooftop', officials said rooftop solar could cost around Tk3–4 (about $0.03) per unit without batteries, and that the state will buy surplus power from households at Tk10.50 (about $0.09) per unit through net metering. The power board expects another 3,000–4,000 megawatts of capacity by February.

The upbeat factorleadership by example, with a price on sunshine that pays the household back.
