'I could see you needed help' — the four words that rescued Louise's morning in Cape Town

Louise Wilkinson was driving her son to work in the early hours in Cape Town when her tyre went flat — on top of an already emotional day, alone at the roadside, frightened and overwhelmed. She phoned her eldest son, who arranged a ride for his brother; that left Louise herself stranded with the flat. Then a young man named Rudi pulled up. He was on his way to work, with his own day waiting — but he stopped, pumped up her tyre so she could limp to a garage, and when she asked why he'd stopped, answered: 'I could see you needed help.' She made it to the garage, where another gentleman plugged the tyre and sent her safely on her way. 'We live in a world where it can sometimes feel as though everyone is too busy to notice the person beside them,' Louise wrote. 'And then someone like you comes along and reminds us that goodness is still very much alive.'

The upbeat factorno grand gesture, no reward — just a man on his way to work who saw a person, not a problem, and stopped.
