In Cairo, girls took centre stage — through theatre — at an event about their own health and futures

On October 28 in Cairo, the Embassy of Canada and UNICEF Egypt brought together girls, senior officials and development partners to mark the International Day of the Girl Child under the theme 'Her Well-being… Her Future'. Through community theatre and interactive sessions, young participants shared their own experiences and priorities on nutrition, health and opportunity — not as guests of honour, but as speakers. The event spotlighted Nourishing Futures, a Canada-funded initiative supporting Egypt's efforts to improve nutrition and healthy habits for girls and women. Deputy Minister of Health Dr Abla Al-Alfy and UNICEF Representative Natalia Winder Rossi joined the discussions, alongside the National Council for Women.

The upbeat factorthe girls weren't the topic of the meeting — they were its hosts, its performers and its point.
