Italy's solar panels reach 48.4 gigawatts as rooftops and fields keep filling with light

Italy added 1.74 gigawatts of solar capacity in the third quarter of 2026 alone, taking the national total to 48.4 gigawatts — up 37% on a year earlier, according to industry association Italia Solare. The growth is spread across thousands of rooftops, farms and fields rather than a handful of mega-projects, carrying clean power into regions all over the country.
