Just in time for Halloween, Hubble and Webb found a ghostly cat staring out of a star nursery

Some 7,500 light-years away in the Carina Nebula, two great telescopes have combined their views of the Cat's Head Nebula — a pillar of dust where new stars are being born. Hubble's visible-light image shows the pillar as a dark column rimmed with glowing gas. Webb's infrared gaze cuts through the dust to reveal glittering background stars and distant galaxies — and one distinct pocket of gas and dust that glows red like a feline eye, which astronomers think marks a young star still drawing in material around itself.

The upbeat factorthe universe carved a Halloween cat out of stardust — and inside its glowing eye, a new star is waking up.
