More than 2.5 million Kenyan learners just sat their national assessments — and every candidate got their paper

Kenya has closed a vast national exercise: more than 2.5 million learners completed the 2026 assessment season, with the junior school assessment finishing today, October 30. Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba said weather disruptions, administrative glitches and medical needs among candidates cropped up along the way — and that coordinated work by the ministry, the examinations council and security agencies ensured every learner who presented themselves was able to sit their papers. The results steer Grade 9 learners into senior school pathways in January under the competency-based system, while 1,048,355 candidates now prepare for the secondary certificate exams beginning November 2.

The upbeat factora quarter of a nation examined at once — and the system bent around storms and setbacks so no candidate was left out.
