On old coal land in Ohio, a solar farm won approval — with no one objecting

In Vinton County, Ohio, a place long shaped by coal, iron and clay, state regulators unanimously approved 149 megawatts of solar plus 149 megawatts of battery storage on reclaimed coal-mine land. Unlike many solar cases in the state, this one drew no opposition — building on former mine land gave the Hamden Energy project a clear path, and a new use for land that industry left behind.
