People with Crohn's disease can now start a leading treatment at home, not in a hospital
Starting treatment for Crohn's disease — a long-term inflammation of the gut — has usually meant hours in a clinic for intravenous infusions. The US Food and Drug Administration has now approved starting AbbVie's Skyrizi (risankizumab) with an injection device worn on the body at home instead. In the Phase 3 AFFIRM study, 74% of patients who had not tried advanced therapies before reached clinical remission by week 12, versus 27% on placebo, and 60% showed visible healing of the gut lining versus 15%. The study was led by Dr Millie Long of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
The upbeat factorserious treatment that fits around a life, instead of taking it over.
