Santo Domingo's old city is piloting a climate toolkit for World Heritage sites worldwide

The Colonial City of Santo Domingo — a World Heritage site since 1990 and one of the oldest European-founded cities in the Americas — is the first place in Latin America and the Caribbean to pilot a new Climate Action Toolkit for World Heritage. Developed by UNESCO with ICCROM, ICOMOS and IUCN, the toolkit helps site managers assess climate risks to the places humanity has agreed to protect forever, and build climate action into their plans. The pilot, running September to November with an in-person workshop in early October, brings together heritage, planning and disaster-risk officials — and its lessons will shape how the toolkit is used at World Heritage properties around the world.
