Scanners without the price tag: EASE raises $9.5 million to rent Africa's hospitals their most advanced machines
An MRI or a surgical robot can transform a hospital — if the hospital can afford to buy one, which most cannot. EASE Holdings rents the machines instead: hospitals in South Africa and Ghana pay per use for MRI, CT and PET-CT scanners, surgical robots and radiotherapy systems, with maintenance handled for them. On 2 November the company secured $9.5 million in new equity from AAFC Group, taking its total equity to $24 million, and expects at least $20 million of new installations in South Africa next year. Its machines are already at work: surgical robots in KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga, a PET-CT scanner in Rustenburg, an MRI in Akwatia, Ghana, and CT scanners in Accra. 'Providers can deliver more diagnoses and treatments, while more patients access the care they need,' said chief executive Dr Kanyinsola Oyeyinka.
