'Scotland is the place to do quantum': a supercluster of 160 companies makes its pitch

Quantum technology — computing and sensing built on the strange rules of subatomic physics — is one of the races every advanced economy wants to win, and Scotland is making its case out loud. Innovation Minister Alyn Smith will address global industry leaders at Edinburgh Castle tonight ahead of the UK National Quantum Technologies Showcase in London on 6 November, pointing to a Critical Technologies Supercluster that already supports more than 160 companies and 11,500 jobs, with turnover projected to reach £10 billion (about $13 billion) by 2035 and 6,600 more jobs. The Scottish Government committed £5 million (about $7 million) last financial year to advanced-technology growth, and Scottish universities lead two of the UK's five quantum hubs. 'There is no doubt,' Smith said, 'Scotland is the place to do quantum.'

The upbeat factor40% of a decade of UK quantum research, done in Scotland — and an open invitation to build the future there.
