Singapore is teaming its food scientists with a farming giant to keep tropical fish healthy

The Singapore Food Agency and Japfa, one of Asia's large agri-food companies, have signed an agreement at Singapore International Agri-Food Week 2026 to connect Singapore's research benches with Japfa's working farms. The first workstreams are aquatic health, disease management and digital aquaculture — including AI-enabled monitoring that can spot trouble in a pond or cage before a farmer can. 'The aim is practical, scalable solutions for a more resilient regional food system,' the partners said, in remarks attributed to SFA chief executive Damian Chan and Japfa director Gabriella Santosa. For a city-state that imports most of its food, healthier fish farms across the region are not a research luxury; they are dinner, secured.
