Solar boats, ancient canals, 4.5 million trees: Latin America's green prize honours ten projects chosen from 2,087

In Cuenca, Ecuador, the applause kept crossing borders. The 11th Premios Verdes named ten winners from six countries, picked from 2,087 entries across 29 countries. Peru's AQUARESTAURA has rebuilt 79 kilometres of ancestral Andean canals, recharging groundwater by 13 million cubic metres a year. Brazil's Replantando Vida has planted more than 4.5 million trees over 25 years while helping people leaving prison rebuild their lives. In Ecuador's Amazon, Fundación Kara Solar's solar-powered boats carry more than 10,000 passengers a year for 53 Indigenous communities — no gasoline needed. 'Behind every project are people who are changing lives in their communities,' said co-founder Gustavo Manrique.
