Solar for the day shift, wind for the night: India signs a 300-megawatt hybrid deal built to keep clean power steady
Solar panels clock off at sunset and wind turbines rest on calm days — so JSW Energy is pairing the two in a single project designed to keep clean electricity flowing around the clock. Through its subsidiary Energizent Power, the company has signed a 25-year power purchase agreement with NHPC, India's state hydroelectric producer, for a 300-megawatt solar-wind hybrid project spread across Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh, at a tariff of Rs 3.49/kWh (about $0.04). The project is due to be switched on within 24 months. It takes JSW's locked-in generation capacity to 29.9 gigawatts — 12.5 gigawatts already running and 12.8 gigawatts under construction — alongside 29.3 gigawatt-hours of energy storage, as the company aims for 30 gigawatts of generation and 40 gigawatt-hours of storage by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2050.
