South Africa's Koruson 2 cluster is fully online: 520 MW of wind and sun
Envusa Energy's Koruson 2 cluster — the 240 MW Mooi Plaats solar farm plus the Umsobomvu and Hartebeesthoek wind farms across the Eastern and Northern Cape — has reached full commercial operation, feeding 520 MW into South Africa's grid through the Koruson substation. The cluster is expected to avoid about 2.2 million tonnes of CO2 a year, created more than 2,000 construction jobs, and directed over R70 million (about $3.8 million) into local businesses and community trusts, within a build valued at R15 billion to R16 billion (about $850 million). Its power is contracted to major industrial users, easing pressure on a strained national grid.
