Spain's grid operator raised investment 19% — and renewables supplied 57.3% of the country's electricity

Redeia, the company behind Spain's grid operator Red Eléctrica, increased its power-network investment by more than 19% in the first nine months of 2026, to €1.09 billion (about $1.3 billion), with overall investment up almost 18% to €1.14 billion (about $1.3 billion). The spending is the plumbing behind a striking number: renewable sources generated 57.3% of all electricity produced in Spain over the same period, while demand rose 3.3% to 198.3 terawatt-hours. Grids rarely make headlines — they are wires, substations and patience — but every percentage point of clean power a country actually uses passes through exactly this kind of investment first.

The upbeat factormore than half of a major country's electricity is now renewable — and the grid behind it just got a 19% bigger budget.
