The doctor comes to the door: Mexico's home-health teams have made 22.8 million house calls

For older Mexicans and people with disabilities, care increasingly arrives at the front door. Mexico's nationwide home-healthcare programme has delivered 22.8 million consultations to 10.9 million people, with more than 21,000 health workers visiting homes to check blood pressure and blood sugar, update vaccinations and spot problems early. By late August, nearly 900,000 people had been referred onward to specialist hospitals — referrals that Welfare Minister Leticia Ramírez calls 'the possibility of even saving lives.' The visits, counted between July 2025 and June 2026, also feed Mexico's planned Universal Health Service, for which more than 2.2 million people have already registered.

The upbeat factor10.9 million people cared for without a waiting room — healthcare that knocks.
