The soil scientist the world just noticed
Embrapa researcher Mariangela Hungria joined the TIME100 2026 list in the Pioneers category for decades of work on biological inputs that replace chemical fertilizers in Brazilian farming. Her microbes, tiny living things that help plants feed themselves, are now used across millions of hectares. She called the honor recognition for Brazilian science and for growing food that keeps soil and people healthy.
